INDICA’s Center for Bhasha Studies is delighted to announce completion of the first institutional purchase (50 sets by https://uofsa.edu/) of the three-volume, nearly three-thousand-page English translation of the नाट्यशास्त्र (Nāṭyaśāstra) by renowned scholar Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao (1948-2024).
Meticulously proofread and typeset in a luxurious facing-page format by well-known scholar Nityanand Misra, with the original Sanskrit text in Devanagari and IAST transliteration on the left and a contemporary English translation by Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao on the right, along with close to 400 bespoke newly-commissioned images, and aesthetically wrapped with care by Sindhu Kulkarni, these volumes are the first of the INDICA Classical Library and part of INDICA’s tribute to Bharata Muni, to whom the Nāṭyaśāstra is traditionally attributed, and to Indian Knowledge Systems.
